Around the world, millions of children are growing up without the love and security of a family. Each one is known by God—created with purpose, dignity, and worth. Yet today, despite long lists of families longing to foster or adopt, many children remain unseen by these very families who could welcome them home.
In orphanages and residential care, children wait. They wait to be noticed. They wait to be chosen. They wait to belong.
But childhood does not pause while they wait.
Scripture calls us to “defend the fatherless” and care for the vulnerable—and research affirms what we know to be true: children are not meant to grow up alone. Without consistent, loving relationships, a child’s development can be deeply impacted. Time spent in institutional care can affect brain development, emotional regulation, and the ability to form healthy, trusting relationships later in life.
The longer a child waits, the greater the impact.
Called to See, Called to Respond
We believe part of God’s call to care for the orphan begins with something simple, yet powerful: seeing.
When a child is seen, their story has the opportunity to reach the heart of a family.
We’ve seen this firsthand. In Ukraine, nearly 80% of children adopted in one year were those who had video profiles shared—a powerful reminder that visibility can change a child’s future. In Romania, nearly 65% of children adopted in one year were adopted by parents who had attended a conference on adoption and God’s heart for the orphaned. When children are no longer hidden, but known, the pathway to family opens.
That’s why we partner with local leaders in India, Romania, Paraguay, and Ukraine to help support efforts to:
• Share children’s stories and profiles within church communities
• Equip and inspire believers to respond to God’s call to care for the fatherless through pastor toolkits
• Host orphan care conferences that mobilize churches and the local community to take action
When the Church and Community sees, they can respond.
