Support for Warmth

This year’s Miles of Smiles for Micala event also highlights a cause that was close to Micala’s heart: helping families remain together through life’s hardest challenges. In many parts of the world, winter brings not only cold, but also the threat of separation — when parents cannot keep their children warm and safe, poverty sometimes forces them into orphanages.

In Ukraine, families face freezing nights without firewood, as nearby forests are mined and destroyed by war.

In India, children huddle under thin sheets when nighttime temperatures dip below freezing.

Something as simple as a blanket or a bundle of firewood can mean the difference between families staying together or being torn apart.
